Summary

Writing the pieces was a combination of two things such as courage to write and applying the necessary tools that I had learned from English 97. For me, it was a big decision for me take the class, but this is only the beginning. I am planning to continue taking the next class this summer and continue to the next following quarter. Yes, it is going to be bumpy, stressful and more challenging along the way, but for me, being able to express what think through writing is freedom. It is worth the struggle. I hope you enjoy reading my four selected pieces and somehow touch you in a certain way.

Thanks,
-Susan

Thanks for the comment Craig...

Hi Susan,

It was a real pleasure to read your stories. I really did enjoy them!

What can I say about the stories I read... Lets start with this...I met my dear friend Susan before she became an "aspiring writer". I used to write things to Susan and get very little response from her in her writings back. She used to tell me "You know I don't write well" or” I can't write!"

Well it appears to me she can write and write very well indeed. You see, Susan has a lot of life and passion in her and it shows in her writings. I truly love her short stories, they may be about everyday things but she has a way with words that bring these very things to life in such a way that you either want to experience them or after your done reading them you felt as if you had.

She may still be taking command of the English language (aren't we all) but she clearly has a talent that has grown. There are some errors in tense and some story sections may be a little too descriptive but not so much that it loses the subject or the meaning of the story.

I really enjoyed reading her stories as is evident in the comments I wrote about each one of them.

The story that touched me the most is "Childhood escapes" it really brought me images of childhood innocence and wonder. I felt as if I was there with her playing and running in the vacant lot.

Another one is "Skeleton 2" Although I am not in favor of the name; I think this was a very deep and emotional story on many levels. It can be interpreted in many ways having a different type of ending for each interpretation. To me that is the mark of a brilliant story. What seems so simple at first really makes you think later, it is really an incredible story...read it again…What’s your take?

In short, Susan has begun to give the world a gift, one that I know was trapped inside of her; she just needed the courage and knowledge to get it out. I know there is a lot more yet to come. The world is ready Susan…just let it out.
